What is Christmas?
If you ask a random person that question you will hear things like, “Christmas is about Santa Claus…it’s Rudolph…it’s Frosty…”
Someone else may say, “Christmas is about family and friends.”
Both of these explanations are ok…there is nothing wrong with Santa & Rudolph & Frosty…But is that all there is to Christmas?
No it’s not. Christmas is about the birth of Jesus.
Someone expressed it like this; “Christmas is when God came down the stairs of heaven with a baby.”
Matthew 1:23 says, “Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us” (Matthew 1:23 KJV).
Christmas is Emmanuel, God with us. When Jesus was born, God took on human skin and walked among us. God came to this earth in the form of Jesus. Jesus would ultimately go to the cross to die for our sins. Jesus loves us and Christmas is proof of that.
Today, God is with us. You may ask, “How?”
God is present today through the presence of the Holy Spirit. God is with us.
God is with us to help us with our anxiety.
God is with us to help us with addiction
God is with us to help us with our heart-break.
Sometimes God is with us in the form of a person who ministers to us. Sometimes it’s through His word. Sometimes it’s through song. But God is with us.
Happy birthday Jesus!
