If I were to ask you, “Name the best person you know or, that you have ever known;” you would name someone or maybe a couple of people that were just good people. You may even say, regarding these people; “if there is a Christian on this earth, it’s him (or her).” There are several people I could name.
But, regardless whom we name, that person is still a sinner. Every human being is. None of us are perfect and each one of us have things that we struggle with more than others.
In Hebrews 12:1, the Bible challenges us to “…lay aside every weight and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,” (KJV).
All of us have a besetting sin…something that we struggle with more than others. For some, maybe it’s anger; for others, maybe it’s laziness. For some, it’s complaining. For others, it’s pride. Got some it’s judging and for others it’s gossip.
We may be quick to point out the flaws of others while ignoring our own flaws.
How do we know our besetting sin? We have to be honest before the Lord. Ask the Holy Spirit to scan your life and reveal the sin you struggle with.
We may think, “Oh I struggle with this particular area of life and can’t do anything about it.” Yes you can. The Holy Spirit will give you strength to defeat it or deal with it. You just have to allow the Spirit to fill your life.
Know what your besetting sin is and ask the Lord for strength to deal with it.
