Last night, Holli & I watched the movie, “Judy.” It’s about the later years of Judy Garland’s life. As you know, Judy played “Dorothy” in the Wizard of Oz.

But Judy had a problem with alcohol and drugs which led to an early death at 47. Toward the end of her life, she went to London to perform and she had good crowds.

In her next to last show, she fell onstage and was booed by the crowd. That was supposed to be her last performance in London.

The next night, another entertainer was supposed to perform. Judy went to his performance and was back-stage. Just before the show was to begin, she asked if she could sing one last song. Then, she sang another that was her last.

She sat down and began to describe the song. She said that it was about hope. Then she began to sing the song she was known for;

“Somewhere over the rainbow, way up high

There’s a land that I heard of once in a lullaby

Oh, somewhere over the rainbow skies are blue

Clouds high over the rainbow, makes all your dreams come true..”

But at some point, her voice broke and she couldn’t finish. Then the crowd stood and sang the song in unison…helping a star finish her last performance.

The crowd singing was a picture of hope. Judy Garland said we all need hope. She was right; we do need hope.

And the greatest hope we can find is in Jesus. Jesus loves us and gives hope to everyone.
