You have probably heard someone say something like, “We are living in the last days.” Or, they might ask… “don’t you think we are living in the last days?”
The “last days” is a reference to the time at the end of the age when Jesus will return. In the book of II Timothy, Paul says, “You should know this, Timothy, that in the last days there will be very difficult times.”
Paul wrote this letter in the first century… yet he told Timothy that they were living in the last days. This. Was only a few years after Jesus had ascended to heaven. How can that period of time have been “the last days?”
Well that was the last days and we are living in the last days. The last days refers to any time following the. Ascension of Jesus. So, we have been living in the last days since Jesus ascended to heaven.
Still, at times, if something happens that is bad, Christians may begin to say “these must be the last days.” I’m sure many felt Covid 19 was in some way, the last days. Many thought Y2k was the last days.
The Bible says that Jesus will return so it will happen but we don’t know when. No one knows when Jesus will return. No one. But, we know that He will.
So what do we need to do to be ready for His return? Number one, we need to be certain that we are saved. Has there been a time in your life when you prayed and invited Christ into your heart? If you have, then you are saved. If you haven’t, you need to do that today. Second, we need to live for Christ. How are we living our lives? No one is perfect but we need to live in a way that we can stand before Christ and give an account of our lives to Christ. We need to live in a manner that we will hear, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant.”
We are living in the last days and we have been since Jesus was on earth. Christ could return at any time. We need to be ready.
