The Bible Should Be Our Guide In Living

In the classic movie “The Wizard of Oz,” Dorothy, the Tin Man, the Lion and the Scare-crow were trying to go to the land of “Ox.” But they needed directions. So, they were told to “follow the yellow-brick road.” If they just followed the yell-brick road, they would make it to the land of Oz.
We need direction as well. But where do we find that direction? For some, their guide or credo in life is, “if it makes you happy, do it.” So, they set off in pursuit of happiness and they just do what makes them happy.
But there is another path we can take in life that is more reliable… more sure than any other path, and it is to follow the path laid out in the Bible. Jesus referred to it as “the straight and narrow way.” How do you follow the “the straight and narrow way?” You do it, by following the principles of the Bible. Psalm 119:105 says, “Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.” Someone may recognize this verse as the verse that is used in VBS . It is a reminder to us that the Bible is the only true source for living.
So, if you haven’t already, I encourage you to let the Bible be your guide in living. It will never lead you astray.
There is a song that used to be sung about the Bible during VBS. It went;
“The Bible is a treasure book, Of stories that are true,
It tells how Jesus came to earth. His Father’s work to do.”
The old poem “My Old Bible” says it this way;
“This old Book is my guide,
‘Tis a friend by my side,
It will lighten and brighten my way:
And each promise I find
Soothes and gladdens the mind,
As I read it and heed it each day.”
