Apples Of Gold

Have you ever had someone walk up to you and speak a word of encouragement to you at a time when you were really down? Or, have you ever gotten a phone call or a text from someone when you really needed something encouraging? More than likely you have… hopefully you have.
When we are down, and someone speaks something to lift us up… an encouraging word can come along just in time.
Several months ago, I received a package. The package had a shirt in it and a nice letter. The letter was a word of encouragement from a man who attends Cartersville First Baptist. The letter is laying on my desk… I intend to frame it… as a reminder of how that letter spoke to me when I needed an encouraging word.
Proverbs 25:11 says, “Like apples of gold in settings of silver Is a word spoken in right circumstances.”
I love that little verse… It is a reminder to us of the power of an encouraging word. It is also a reminder to us of receiving a word when we especially need it.
When we are down… discouraged… depressed… at those times, an encouraging word is even more needed than others.
There is someone in your circle of influence that needs an encouraging word. Maybe a child… your spouse… your girlfriend or boyfriend… a neighbor… a friend from church.
In fact, just yesterday, I was talking with a man in the gym. Just about every time I speak to him and ask him how he’s doing he responds with, “I’m doing great!”
Yesterday I bragged on him for saying that. Then he said, “Well, you have to decide to make it a good day.” Then he added, “Make it a good day by helping someone… calling someone… etc..
He’s right… someone today needs “an apple of gold.” Let the Lord use you to give it to them.
